Assistant Manager & Service Dog Trainer

Rob Gunsel

Rob grew up with a passion and love for animals. While attending UNC-Wilmington, Rob decided to change that passion into practice and enrolled in a two year service dog program that showed him the true healing power of dogs. During that time, Rob applied and was accepted into a three month internship and was able to assist in the training and placement of privately owned service dogs. He was then offered a full time job training service dogs for that program that has turned into a passionate career.

Rob’s professional experience and highlights range from training and placing service dogs for a large non-profit, creating their service dog apprenticeship program from scratch, moving to Texas to develop another training campus, managing an entire service dog training department at that new campus, and becoming a professor for the online school Animal Behavior Institute-teaching their service dog and general dog training courses. With close to a decade of service dog training experience with various types of service dogs, Rob enjoys nothing more than to be a part of the wonderful connection between service dogs and their handlers.

Rob recently relocated back to Charlotte to be closer to family and friends, and he and his wife are expecting their first child in early 2023! He joined Love in the Lead in November of 2022 and will be training service dogs, working with our clients, and assisting in the development of our non-profit.
